WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT

Enertrag UK, the British subsidiary of a German company, is proposing to build a wind farm comprising nine turbines in the open countryside between the villages of Sulgrave and Weston in Northamptonshire. The height of these turbines (from ground level to the tip of the rotor in an upright position) would be approximately 125 metres or 410 feet. This is higher than the spire of Salisbury Cathedral and two and a half times the height of Nelson's Column. Three of these turbines would lie less than 1000 metres from houses in Sulgrave and one of them would be only 850 metres (half a mile) from Sulgrave Manor. The proposed locations of the nine turbines are shown on the map below:

The following photographs are a representation of how the wind turbines may appear, based on the best information available as to their proposed size and location. The scale of the turbines on the photographs is based on images made of similar turbines at the same distances and using the same focal length lens.

The members of Sulgrave and Weston Windfarm Action Group have investigated the likely impact of this proposal upon our villages and their inhabitants, the unspoilt countryside, Sulgrave Manor and the local road network.

They have also examined the latest scientific and technical reports and reviews on land-based wind energy generation with a view to reaching a balanced view of whether the benefits, in terms of carbon saving, from this particular development outweigh the negative impact on the community and the region.

They have concluded that the local impact of the proposed Sulgrave - Weston windfarm is so dramatic that it does not justify the relatively small saving in carbon emissions that may possibly result and have thus resolved to oppose it in every way possible.

The detailed reasons for our opposition to the proposed development are set out in other sections of this website.
